A love triangle.  A Tony winning guest star.  And…a new baby?

The new season of “How I Met Your Mother” kicks off Monday night and we’ve got the scoop on what to look forward to – straight from the show’s creator, Carter Bays.

“Any show in its seventh season is going to struggle a little with how to stay fresh and interesting,” he admits.

Watch A Sneak Peek Of The Season Premiere:

So here’s what Bays and creative partner Craig Thomas have cooked up for loyal viewers of one of TV’s top rated comedies:

A BABY FOR MARSHALL AND LILY: Much of the season will be spent with the show’s only married couple (Jason Segal and Alyson Hannigan) “grappling with what it means to be a parent and waking up one day and realizing that ‘I can’t just be me,’” Bays says. “There are some pressures involved with having a baby and they will both snap at various different points along the way.”  Bays won’t confirm whether we will meet the new family addition this season, but he hints: “A TV season is about the same length as a pregnancy.  So we can kind of get the whole story.”

A NEW LOVE TRIANGLE: “Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) has rediscovered Nora (Nazanin Boniadi).  Nora has re-entered his life,” he says.  And Robin (Cobie Smulders) is starting to now have feelings for him again.  That triangle may or may not expand into a square and a pentagon and then a hexagon.  It is going to be a bit of a game of musical chairs.”

A “SHORT” GUEST STAR: “We have Martin Short coming on to the scene for a lovely little arc as Marshall’s new boss.  Marshall has left the bank.  He wants to be someone that his child can be part of and part of that is leaving the bank and working for this environmental firm.  He plays this incredible environmental lawyer.  He has taken on the big guys and won.  He is going to surprise Marshall.”

“How I Met Your Mother” returns Monday, September 19 at 8:00 PM on CBS
