Say what you will about the eccentricities of Cher, but the outspoken star makes a good point.
It’s just “Dancing with the F*@#ing Stars,” America!
That’s Cher’s take on the ruckus that’s erupted over her son Chaz Bono, a transgendered activist, competing on this season of “Dancing with the Stars,” beginning Monday night.
The 65-year-old singer called in to the “Ellen DeGeneres Show” Wednesday, where Chaz, 42, was one of the guests, and gave her opinion of what’s really scary about this whole thing.
“I got to tell you something … You doing this dance is about as scary as you making the ‘change,’ ” Cher joked.
While Cher has no plans to pop up on “DWTS” to cheer Chaz on, she still defended her child once again from the backlash that’s stormed the press and message boards since the Season 13 cast was announced in August.
“If you’ve got that excess time and that amount of hostility, I’m not so sure I can say anything to you that would make you change your feelings,” Cher says. “I don’t know that I would have any magic words to make you feel more comfortable and to soothe you into not being terrified of my child dancing on Dancing with the F*#%ing Stars.”
As for how the controversy is affecting Chaz and his partner Lacey Schwimmer in their preparation, neither dancer is letting the heat get to them (at least outwardly).
“My first dance is pretty good, it’s the Cha-Cha,” Chaz says, who’s doing his best to stay focused on the competition and not the headlines. “The Quickstep gives me nightmares,” he added, “but I’m starting to feel pretty confident. We did it for some of the other people on the show today, and they seem to really like it.”
