Wendy Dickey tells TMZ that “no harm was done” to her daughter Paisley because she had no clue who – or what – she was imitating. The pageant mom insists the suggestive getup was “less revealing than gymnastics wear and swimsuits.”
Dickey claims she also put Paisley in a “classy,” post-makeover “Pretty Woman” outfit, but that TLC edited that part out.
Watch a sneak peek of the episode:
“I’m raising my child just as well as any mother does … I take my kid to church every week … at least I’m not forcing them into sports and getting my child injured like some parents,” Dickey says. “People need to look at their own family and what they’re doing. I don’t know why people are focusing so much on pageant moms when there’s much more harmful things people are letting their children do!”
The episode, which airs tonight, has already sparked controversy. A predictably peeved Parents Television Council has responded by issuing the following statement: “We have a serious problem when The Learning Channel [Ed note: TLC changed its name in 1998] features a toddler, who probably hasn’t even learned to read, dressed as a prostitute showing off her sexy strut. There’s no question, TV executives are complicit in robbing these small kids of their childhood. For years we’ve seen adult sexuality being inappropriately and aggressively foisted on innocent young children, but children today are being sexualized at younger and younger ages.”
This is now the second week in a row that “Toddlers & Tiaras” has made major headlines. Last week, critics lashed out against the reality series after showing a girl wearing a padded bra for an impersonation of Dolly Parton.
“Toddlers & Tiaras” airs Wednesdays at 10/9c on TLC.
