A teen blogger charged with murder will seek help from Harriet Korn during the upcoming season of “Harry’s Law,” star Kathy Bates tells XfinityTV.com.
“It’s a very timely subject,” the actress says. “The young woman has been charged with homicide because she outed a girl at high school for being gay on her blog. That is one of the cases I found very interesting this season. And very controversial, I think.”
The season kicks off September 21 with another three episode murder case, Bates reveals: “Alfred Molina plays a man who has been accused of murdering his wife. And Jean Smart, the DA who is prosecuting him, is one of our guest stars. There are a lot of twists and turns in that case.”
“Harry’s Law” was one of the breakout hits last season for NBC – which is moving the sophomore series to a new day and time: Wednesdays at 9/8c.
Bates, 63, earned an Emmy nomination for her portrayal of a tough-as-nails lawyer, who sets up her practice in a Cincinnati shoe store.
In a conference call with reporters Tuesday, the star also opened up about:
The introduction of new characters Oliver Richard (Mark Valley) and Cassie Reynolds (Karen Olivo): “Harry has got some issues with Mark’s character, Ollie. He doesn’t always rub her the right way. With Karen’s character, she is becoming a bit of a mentor. At first Harry is very blunt with Cassie. And doesn’t treat her very well. But in the later episodes I am discovering that she is beginning to have a mentor relationship with her.”
The possibility of a romance between Harry and Tommy Jefferson (Christopher McDonald): “There is definitely a chemistry between the two, but I think it has to do with something a bit more basic and that is that of all the people in the office, he is the one that understands her dilemma with getting older and how she looks at life. He is the only one that can kind of commiserate. But Tommy has kind of demonstrated on more that he has a thing for the younger ladies. And he usually pays to have a companion, so I doubt they would have a romantic fling.
Watch the chemistry between Harry and Tommy:
Imagining her life – if she couldn’t act: “I know a lot of people my age are having to start over. I don’t know what I could begin to do. I guess I would probably try to get a job involving animals. Something more quiet and less public.”
Struggling with age: “I do think about aging. Certainly as I get older. I am happy that the show requires me to walk a lot. It forces me to get a lot of exercise whether I want to or not. So that is a good thing. So yeah, I do think about getting older. There are things I can’t do as well as I used to. But being a cancer survivor I am just really glad to be here. I guess that is really the bottom line.”
