The doctor is back in. “ER” alum Eric La Salle has booked a multi-episode arc on CBS’s upcoming drama, “A Gifted Man.” According to the network, La Salle will play Evan Morrison, a neuropsychiatrist who treats people with emotional and behavioral disturbances. La Salle’s character is described as “a great medical detective focusing on the nuances of human behavior.”

“A Gifted Man” – one of our top 11 must-watch shows of fall - stars Patrick Wilson as a type-a surgeon who starts to become unhinged when his ex-wife (Jennifer Ehle) returns from the hereafter to teach him the meaning of life. The series is executive produced by former “ER” EP Neal Baer.

“I’m thrilled to be working again with Eriq La Salle,” Baer said in a statement. “I have very fond memories of our time together on ‘ER’ and look forward to having Eriq portray another unforgettable character on ‘A Gifted Man.’”

La Salle, whose recent work has been behind the camera (he’s currently directing an episode of the CW’s new Sarah Michelle Gellar thriller “Ringer“),  may also step up to direct an episode of the fall drama.

“A Gifted Man” premieres Friday, Sept. 23 on CBS.
