Another film-to-TV adaptation is in the works, and while I don’t generally advocate the remake trend, for once I have to say … why didn’t someone think of this one sooner?
The fun-filled romantic adventure starred ’80s dynamic duo Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner, along with their lil’ buddy Danny DeVito.
Turner played Joan Wilder, a romance novelist who became embroiled in a jungle adventure when she traveled to Columbia to find her kidnapped sister — and found danger, excitement and love instead with a handsome, swaggering adventurer named Jack Colton (Douglas). Directed by Robert Zemeckis, the successful film spawned a sequel, “The Jewel of the Nile” (1985).
The new project comes from 20th Century Fox TV, with Mark Friedman (“The Forgotten”) on board to write the series adaptation and Shawn Levy set to direct. It has received a script commitment with penalty from NBC, says Deadline.
NBC is turning another hit film into a TV series – John Grisham’s best-selling novel “The Firm” is becoming a TV series starring Josh Lucas (in the Tom Cruise role from the film version) and Juliette Lewis.
