Details have surfaced on Sean Hayes‘ upcoming return to primetime.  EW reports that “Rescue Me” co-creator Peter Tolan and his writing partner Michael Wimer are nearing a deal to write and executive produce the NBC comedy.

Although the series will put the former “Will & Grace” star back in front of the camera, it won’t center around just Jack. According to the show’s logline, “the untitled family comedy follows two men tasked with raising a 12 year old. If that broadcast sitcom concept sounds familiar, it’s because you haven’t heard the twist yet: The two dads are a gay couple.”

The project, which was announced by NBC’s Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt at the Television Critics Association press tour last month, is still in the development phase.

This will mark Hayes’ third new project for NBC. He’s executive producing the network’s fall drama “Grimm,” and he’s currently working on a pilot for “Celebrity Game Night,”  where contestants are paired with celebrities to play games. As for those questioning Tolan’s comedy credentials, look no further than his underwear-bearing moment at press tour, or his work on “Murphy Brown,” “Home Improvement,” and “The Larry Sanders Show.”
