MTV has picked up newbie comedy “Awkward” for a second season. The irreverent late-night series stars Ashley Rickards (“One Tree Hill”) as Jenna, an under-the-radar teen who’s thrown into the high school spotlight following a tragically misinterpreted accident.
“’Awkward’ has really resonated with our young audience marking yet another successful push into scripted programming and the further diversification of our schedule,” said David Janollari, MTV’s head MTV Programming. “[Creator and executive producer] Lauren Iungerich has created a truly unique, contemporary young female voice, brought to life by the show’s incredibly talented cast.”
Since debuting on July 19, the series has averaged 1.7 million weekly viewers.
Now that MTV has DTR’ed (aka “Defined the Relationship”), all of you commitment phobes who didn’t watch for fear of cancellation can catch up on new episodes of the critically acclaimed show right here on XfinityTV.com.
Season 2 will premiere in 2012.
