The Syfy series “Eureka” may be coming to an end after six seasons, Deadline reports.

The network has ordered just six episodes of the original series for Season 6, indicating they are wrapping up the story. “Eureka” is now airing its fourth season and the cast and crew are currently in production on the 13 episodes comprising its fifth season, with shooting set to wrap next month. The final set of six episodes will reportedly be filmed in October.

While they have not confirmed “Eureka” is canceled just yet, the cable net issued this ominous sounding statement Thursday to Entertainment Weekly:

“[Producers] Bruce Miller and Jaime Paglia have brought a creative vitality to Eureka that has kept it fresh and inventive. Although we do not have a commitment beyond six episodes for the sixth season, we are hopeful that this will not be the end of the franchise.”

The sci-fi series, starring Colin Ferguson and Salli Richardson-Whitfield, is set in the fictional town of Eureka, Ore., a community where brilliant scientists and geniuses reside and work on their latest top-secret inventions.
