Former Playboy Playmate turned author Jenny McCarthy has reportedly become so frustrated with the “creative team” at Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network that McCarthy has left OWN.
Apparently, McCarthy had had a deal since 2009 with Winfrey to develop a show for OWN, but McCarthy wasn’t happy with the way the show was shaping up, reports Fox411.com, the showbiz-news Web site of Fox News.
“Jenny wasn’t thrilled with the direction that OWN producers were going with on the show,” Fox411 quotes an unnamed source as saying. “She had been working with Oprah and her producers for over a year, developing this project for OWN. Jenny finally decided to embrace Oprah’s philosophy, which is to ‘follow your bliss.’ Well, Jenny followed her bliss and walked right off the project.”
Now, according to the story, McCarthy’s taken her show concept to NBC. So, what’s it all mean? Well, it is only one TV personality deciding to ditch Oprah in favor of staking her future with another media company. Still, it’s a pretty rare occurrence that can be taken as a sign that Oprah’s clout might be weakening now that her daytime show is over and she’s struggling to make her mark with OWN.
On the other hand, McCarthy is the only defector we’ve heard about. The question is: Will there be others?
