If there’s one thing Kevin Smith knows how to do — other than make movies, anyway — it’s talking. So the fact that Vulture.com has broken the news that the writer/director of films like “Clerks” and “Chasing Amy” is developing a half-hour talk show pilot shouldn’t catch anyone off-guard. Vulture says his representatives are describing the series, tentatively titled “The Kevin Smith Project,” to potential guests as “”a daily 30-minute entertainment talk show for syndication … The idea is a ‘Regis and Kelly’ talk show at the opposite end of the day for the opposite kind of audience — the 12-34 demo. Kevin and his co-host will talk water-cooler topics at the top of the show, followed by a celebrity interview and a comedy segment from the field (a la “The Daily Show”). Each show will feature one celebrity interview.” The reps also say the show is being positioned as something that would follow the syndicated celeb gossip series “TMZ” in both tone and time period. No matter what happens with this attempt, however, one thing is certain. The raunchy, provocative Smith is the one person with a talk show pilot who won’t be referred to by anyone as “the next Oprah.”
