‘Antiques Roadshow’ Breaks Its Own Appraisal Record

Five Chinese carved rhinoceros cups were appraised at over $1 million (PBS)
Five Chinese carved rhinoceros horn cups have become the highest-appraised items in “Antiques Roadshow” history. The collection, which is believed to be from the 17th or 18th century, is valued at somewhere between $1 million and $1.5 million.
The cups were brought to a recent “Roadshow” event in Tulsa, OK by a man who has owned them since the early 70s.
The show’s first $1 million appraisal was in 2009. A woman at a Raleigh, NC event arrived with four pieces of carved Chinese jade and celadon, and walked out with an estimated appraisal of $1.07 million.
The Tulsa episode will air as part of “Antiques Roadshow’s” 16th season in 2012 on PBS. The name of the owner was not released.
