In light of being found as a toddler drenched in his mother’s blood, losing the one woman who offered him a sense of humanity, and then being ditched by his soul mate because she just couldn’t hack the serial killer life—Dexter Morgan isn’t the type of dude you’d expect to search for faith by way of any C.S. Lewis books.

But in the new season of “Dexter,” which debuts October 2 on Showtime, he’s prompted to do just that—tackle the big G-O-D question—not so much for himself but for his son Harrison, whom he feels should have a moral foundation to work from.

“It’s done in true ‘Dexter’ style, so it’s a lot of fun, and it’s through his prism,” reassured producer Sara Colleton at Comic-Con on Thursday via HitFix.com.

So aside from the forensic blood expert’s spiritual conundrum and his return to splicing and dicing, what else is there to look forward to? Look out for cast newbies Edward James Olmos, Colin Hanks, and Mos Def to keep things interesting.
