Bristol Palin on Her Mom: Quitting Governor’s Job is Non-Issue

Bristol Palin doesn’t think her mother’s decision to quit her job as Alaska governor midway into her second term will hurt her if she decides to run for president.

Really? We don’t happen to agree with Bristol, but we’ll get into that a little later. Bristol talked about her famous mom – Sarah Palin – on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” Thursday night.

Jay asked her if she thought her mother’s resignation was a significant issue for voters. “I don’t think so, no, definitely not,” Bristol said. “There were so many lawsuits filed against her!” she explained, “and it was just costing the state tons of money and us personally tons of money and she just wasn’t able to do her job with those lawsuits being filed!”

Jay countered by pointing out that contending with legal issues is a part of the job for politicians today (though that’s not entirely true in every case). “Not to the magnitude that she was getting into,” Bristol the pistol fired back. “She just wanted to put her state first and she knew that it wasn’t good for the taxpayers to be paying that kind of stuff against these frivolous lawsuits so she left that last year to her lieutenant Governor!”

Of course, the question of voter interest in Sarah Palin’s career as Alaska governor only becomes important if Sarah decides to run for president (she said recently she’ll make an announcement – either yes or no – in late August or early September). Bristol told Jay she doesn’t know what her mother will do. “I don’t know,” said Bristol. “It’s something that we’ve definitely addressed, but it’s just up to her ultimately.”

The 20-year-old former finalist on ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” was on “The Tonight Show” (with fellow guest Don Rickles) to promote her new autobiography, “Not Afraid of Life: My Journey So Far.” Part of that journey so far was her pregnancy at age 17 that produced a son named Tripp. The father was her then-boyfriend, now estranged, Levi Johnston, who she apparently loathes.

Even Jay made fun of Levi. “Now, this Levi – he’s writing a book also,” Jay said. “Now, has he read a book previously?!” Bristol disparaged him too, predicting that the book will be filled with “lies.” Said she, “He’s going to have to find a screenwriter or something to come up with more obnoxious lies!”

Meanwhile, we happen to think Bristol is underestimating this quitting issue. Last fall, former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura – a plugged-in political personality if there ever was one – slammed Palin for quitting in an interview with XfinityTV and we got the feeling then he was not alone in his negative feelings for her.

As for Bristol, she’s working on a new reality series for A&E’s Biography Channel that will likely premiere late this year.
