Giddy up! After a two-decade absence from the small screen, “Dallas” is back.

“Television’s landmark drama returns,” as TNT is touting, returns in summer 2012, that is.

Last week, TNT ordered 10 episodes of a new version of “Dallas,” and the long-rumored series is really happening, because the network just released actual footage of the new series in a teaser that aired Monday night during the season premiere of “The Closer.”

But before your eyes roll out of your head (“Not another remake!”), it should be noted that the network is billing this new project as an “update,” not a remake, since the story is a continuation of the South Fork saga and picks up with the next generation of Ewings. The original series ran on CBS for thirteen seasons from April 2, 1978 to May 3, 1991.

But to rope you back in, at least three major original cast members are reprising their roles: Larry Hagman (J.R.), Patrick Duffy (Bobby) and Linda Gray (Sue Ellen) are all on board.

As for the new blood: Jordana Brewster (“The Fast and the Furious”) plays Elena, a young woman embroiled in a love triangle with Ewing cousins Christopher (Bobby’s adopted son) and John Ross (J.R.’s son), who are engaged in a family feud (naturally). Jesse Metcalfe (‘Desperate Housewives’) and Josh Henderson play the next generation of Ewing boys.
