“Idol” is on vacation. “The Voice” has gone quiet. It’s “The X Factor’s” turn to be heard. The Simon Cowell-produced Fox series is the next big music competition series on the horizon and, even though it won’t start airing until this fall, the network has released its first teaser video to promote the show. And if you thought that this year’s kinder, gentler “American Idol” and the constant encouraging words from the “Voice” coaches might cool Cowell’s caustic comments, guess again. This trailer may begin like “Simon In Wonderland” but stay tuned….the brash Brit looks to be back to his old ways.

In a press release promoting his series, Cowell says that, “This is everything you would dream of doing if you were making a TV show. There is nothing more I could want. In fact, today I was thinking, is there anything else I need? Then, literally, a helicopter was transported past me in a truck, and I think I said we’ve got it all. This is why you make TV shows. This is everything I’ve always dreamt of doing.”

Meanwhile, his former and future partner in judging, Paula Abdul, added in the statement that that Cowell told her she inspired the idea for this teaser video. “Simon says that I inspired him for the whole idea. I don’t know what that means. I don’t know if it is a compliment or an insult. It’s probably an insult, but it was funny. Having Simon high-five me and watching Simon giving a standing ovation to a young girl singing ‘Tomorrow’ from ‘Annie’…we had to hold it in. We were laughing very hard.”

Look for “The X Factor” on Fox starting Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 21 and 22, at 8 p.m.
