New On DVD This Week: The Lord of the Rings Extended Edition Blu-ray, Beastly

Lord of the Rings Trilogy: Extended Edition Blu-ray

This highly anticipated extended edition (Blu-ray) set will be released in English 6.1 DTS-HD MA audio and includes a new transfer of ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring‘ which was remastered from the original 2k digital files. The set boasts more than 26 hours of additional content, highlighted by the rare behind-the-scenes documentaries created by Costa Botes, the filmmaker given unprecedented access to the set of each production by Peter Jackson. The feature-length documentaries, with more than four and a half hours of footage, focus on a number of complexities and circumstances that tested the filmmakers, cast and crew during the shoot, as well as a look at some of the comical antics and personal moments on the set. The Costa Botes documentaries accompany acclaimed special features by Michael Pellerin from the original extended cut releases to make this the most comprehensive The Lord of the Rings compilation ever. Also, Monday night fans came out for the “Middle-earth Midnight Madness,” a count down celebration – in anticipation of the magic moment when they could finally own Warner Home Video’s release of Peter Jackson’s visual masterpieces on Blu-ray in a 15-disc stunning collection entitled The Lord of the Rings The Motion Picture Trilogy: Extended Edition. Sucker Punch

The story of Alice in Wonderland receives a hyper-violent makeover in ‘Sucker Punch,’ Watchmen and 300 director Zack Snyder’s fantastical tale of a young psychiatric patient who escapes into a vivid world of fantasy after being committed to a mental hospital by her abusive stepfather. Set in the 1950s, Sucker Punch takes viewers on an incredible journey into the mind of Babydoll (Emily Browning), who finds herself at the mercy of her malevolent stepfather after her mother passes away. With no remaining family and no friends to turn to, her stepfather has her committed to a bleak mental hospital, where she is scheduled to receive a lobotomy in five days. Billy the Exterminator

George Gently
