In the latest episode of “Living Your Dreams Through Your Daughter” – wait, make that “Toddlers & Tiaras” – the young contestants faced hairy issues. Like highlights. And waxing. (And yes, we’re still talking about girls under 10.) The fright-fest is part of the “Halloween Bash” pageant featured on this week’s show.
Chloe’s mom took her to the salon to get some “natural highlights,” concerned that her 9-year-old daughter didn’t have the right look to win. “If it would come down to facial beauty alone, she doesn’t have that look that a lot of the judges are looking for,” she said.
Wait. Did she just call her kid ugly?
“She does have brown eyes with the dirty blonde hair. It doesn’t stand out like a beautiful redhead, or a blonde-haired, blue-eyed child,” Mom concluded. Mom is a platinum blonde, by the way.
Chloe was game during the highlights but less so for the eyebrow waxing, protesting with a plaintive “Nooooo” that went ignored.
Maybe Mom should have packed some beef jerky. The salty human chewtoy was the perfect bribe to get Hallee, 4, to go through with a spray tan.
“Toddlers” Tyke Gets Waxed!
Then there’s first-time beauty pageant contestant Ca’Trina (pronounced “Katrina”), stepmom to Saryniti (pronounced “Serenity”), who consults Jesus on every decision and keeps an empty cabinet in the house just waiting to be filled with trophies. She even had “Pentecostal Beauty Saryniti” T-shirts made for her entourage.
The pair makes goodies bags to hand out to all the other girls, so that Saryniti, 6, will still feel good about herself for thinking of others even if she doesn’t win, stepmom explained.
Unfortunately, the pageant newbies made a major miscalculation, asking a friend to do Saryniti’s hair. The would-be stylist showed up without a hairbrush and then took so long with the borrowed hotel comb that Saryniti nearly missed her category.
“Toddlers & Tiaras” airs at 10 p.m. Wednesdays on TLC.
