It looks like a major “Law & Order: SVU” mystery is close to being solved. Deadline Hollywood is reporting that the show’s producers have narrowed down the competition to replace departing Christopher Meloni to four actors. The four men — Danny Pino (“Cold Case”), Kevin Alejandro (“Southland”), David Conrad (“Ghost Whisperer”) and Michael-Raymond James (“Terriers”) — are apparently flying to New York this week to test for the role with series star Mariska Hargitay. There’s no word on when a decision will be made, but meanwhile, the search also continues for a female lead who might eventually replace Hargitay. She has asked for a lighter work schedule next season, and producers were said to have been looking at bringing in Jennifer Love Hewitt at one point. (A deal with her, however, is apparently no longer a possibility.)
