With $1,000 cash and a pink princess canopy bed on the line, perhaps it’s no surprise that the losers of the Ultimate Grand Supreme title threw hissy fits. Or maybe that’s just because they’re 5 and 6 years old, wear more makeup than drag queens and are being fed Red Bull by their mothers.
The season 6 premiere of “Toddlers & Tiaras” Wednesday followed the rivalry between Eden, who is 6, and MaKenzie, who is 5. But Eden is a six-year-old who appears on talk shows, has a mall tour booked and a new album. MaKenzie has an acting coach.
They also both have very determined mothers who swear they’re just pushing their kids. Still, MaKenzie’s mom got mad at her daughter for having a meltdown. “It makes me angry, because we spent a lot of money on this and I want her to do well,” she said.
And, in the end, neither girl took home the top prize. Eden’s mom Mickie consoled her sobbing daughter, who came in second to be crowed “Universal Royalty”.
“Please don’t cry baby girl, you’re on camera. You’re making a spectacle of yourself,” Mickie said.
“Pull yourself together.”
While Eden looked crushed and couldn’t stop crying, mom kept dreaming. In an ideal world, she said, an agent would call and say “‘We’d like to sign Eden up for a $2 million deal.’ Bye bye teacher’s job! Hello Hollywood!”
‘Toddlers & Tiaras’ airs at 10 p.m. Wednesdays on TLC.
