Covert Affairs” has uncovered a clever way of interacting with viewers online.

The hit USA series starring Piper Perabo has launched an alternative plotline of the show just for Twitter, giving fans a double dose of spy games.

The “Tweetcast,” dubbed “Mission” Budapest,” was developed in conjunction with the show’s creators, writers, and series costar Christopher Gorham and it allows fans on Twitter to engage in conversation with the operatives and even influence the plot.

A six-week stunt that includes everything from photos and videos to classified documents, the Tweetcast follows CIA tech guy Auggie (Gorham) as he “handles” two CIA operatives (and ex-lovers) and guides them through a secret mission in Hungary. The resolution to the online storyline will run during the show’s July 12 episode.

Here’s a description of the Twitter “Affairs” from the show’s web site:

“Follow Auggie and his fellow operatives on their latest mission in Budapest. Watch the live stream of CIA communications, analyze intelligence and give Auggie advice on how to bring everyone home safely. Return daily for updates!”

“Covert Affairs” airs Tuesdays at 10/9c on the USA Network.
