Dr. Maria Santos is returning to “All My Children” to tend to the sick in her push-up bra.  “CSI:Miami” star Eva LaRue will reprise her role as the beautiful neurosurgeon on the soap for several episodes in August. AMC will air its final episode in September. Numerous actors who have appeared on the soap are returning for its swan song. Earlier this week, it was announced that movie star Josh Duhamel will also appear as his character Leo DuPres for an episode. Other actors returning include  Cady McClain (Dixie), who has already made her first appearance on the show, and Julia Barr (Brooke) and David Canary (Adam.)

LaRue  joined AMC in 1993. Maria’s romance with Edmund (John Callahan) was one of the show’s most popular storylines of the 1990s. Maria was the sexy doctor with a heart of gold. Erica Kane (Susan Lucci) memorably described her as, “Tending to the sick in her push-up bra.”  LaRue left AMC in 1997,when Maria “died.” She then returned from 2002 and 2005 for a less popular stint when Maria turned out to be alive but suffering from amnesia. Shortly after departing AMC, LaRue joined “CSI:Miami” as  Natalia Boa Vista. In 2010, she appeared in the show’s 40th anniversary episode.

The details of LaRue’s return have not been released. ABC’s press release says only that she, “will make a return visit to Pine Valley this summer for several episodes.”
