There’s talk that George Lopez’s talk show is in “limbo.”
Lopez and his producers have been informed by TBS that the network needs “more time” to decide whether or not “Lopez Tonight” will return for a third season, according to a story in Variety Wednesday.
The comedian’s late-night talk show has slipped in the ratings since its move to midnight, after Conan O’Brien launched his own show on the network last November. TBS likely hoped the high-profile lead-in would boost Lopez’s numbers, instead of going the other way as some observers worried–the cabler not needing two late-night hosts back-to-back. It should be noted, however, that Conan’s ratings have dropped since his debut as well.
Variety says Lopez is hopeful he’ll be back for another season, which is slated to resume production in November. TBS reportedly has until August to make the call on “Lopez Tonight’s” future.
