Things really go to pot on “Deadliest Catch” Tuesday night as the skipper of the Cornelia Marie finds evidence someone’s been smoking marijuana down around the engine room.
The discovery – airing on Discovery Channel at 9 p.m. (8c) on Tuesday – is only the latest twist in the continuing sage of the Cornelia Marie, which has been plunged into turmoil this season in the aftermath of the death last year of beloved captain Phil Harris.
This season, his sons – Josh (the elder) and Jake Harris – are warring with their newly hired captain, grizzled crab-fishing veteran Derrick Ray. It’s an awkward relationship since Ray, as captain, is technically in charge of everything and everybody aboard ship, including crewmen Josh and Jake, who nevertheless are the boat’s co-owners, having inherited it from their dad.
Ongoing dissension between captain and crew has even impacted the boats fishing efforts: The Cornelia Marie has caught the lowest amount of crab by far of any of the crab boats featured on the show this season.
The battle between the Harrises and their hired boss comes to a head in this episode – as Alaska cops close in on the boat’s suspected marijuana smoker. Who is it? You’ll just have to tune in and see.
Also featured in the episode: The Northwestern, the Rambin’ Rose (which is also suffering through its own bout of disgruntled-crew-itis), and the Kodiak, whose crew is plagued with injuries.
“Deadliest Catch” airs Tuesday nights at 9/8c on Discovery Channel.
