Mark Burnett insists he is not trying to kill his wife of four years, actress Roma Downey.

“I am trying to help my wife live,” the reality TV mogul says.

“In the last ten years, I have convinced Roma to become a certified S.C.U.B.A. diver in open water.  Roma can propel down cliffs and she is training right now to climb mountains… Roma has cuts on her shins but still looks incredible with those legs.”

Downey – who married the “Survivor” producer in 2007 – is “Irish and motivated,” Burnett says.

Motivated enough to share her second husband’s passion for danger.

“I don’t want myself or people I love to live a life without the ups and downs of adventure,” Burnett tells XfinityTV.  “Nature is raw.  And your veneer — of who you would like to present you are to other people — is stripped away so quickly by nature because you can’t fight it.  You have to go with nature.”

His latest project, the ABC reality series “Expedition: Impossible,” brings contestants closer to nature than ever.

The show features 13 teams of three competing in tasks while scaling mountains, racing across deserts and navigating torrential rivers in Morocco.

“’Expedition Impossible’ has that fun of ‘Indiana Jones,’” Burnett says.  “There are tears every day.  And there is joy every day.  In the end though, it is (about) can this group of people keep it together?”

“Expedition: Impossible” premieres June 23 on ABC.
