Animation Domination baron Seth McFarlane is about to add a fourth cartoon to his empire – and it’s a big one. The “Family Guy,” “Cleveland Show,” and “American Dad” creator has acquired the rights to reboot “The Flintstones” for both television and film. The televised adaptation will premiere in 2013 on Fox. At Monday’s Fox Upfront presentation in New York, the network’s Entertainment president Kevin Reilly said the series will have the “same look, same feel and same classic characters” as the original, only with “new stories.”

“The very first cartoon character I drew at age two was Fred Flintstone,” said MacFarlane via press release. “So it’s appropriate that events have come full circle, allowing me to produce the newest incarnation of this great franchise. Plus, I think America is finally ready for an animated sitcom about a fat, stupid guy with a wife who’s too good for him.”
