Fox has renewed its forensic drama “Bones” for a seventh season, the network confirmed Tuesday.
Star David Boreanaz first broke the news Monday night on his Twitter page, writing: “Season 7 is GO for Bones.”
“‘Bones’ is creatively fresh, it’s a rock-solid player every time it airs and this season it has helped us win on Thursday nights for the first time in our history,” Fox President of Entertainment Kevin Reilly said in a statement. “Hart Hanson and the fantastic cast and crew, as well as the millions of loyal ‘Bones’ fans, make this show really special, and I’m excited to have it on our air for another stellar season.”
So while fans can rest assured “Bones” is back for at least another season, what we aren’t sure of is just how producers plan to deal with leading lady Emily Deschanel’s pregnancy. It won’t be written into the storyline, but whether they will produce a shorter season or send Brennan on a long vacation on-screen remains to be seen.
The series also has a potential spin-off on deck for the fall; the “backdoor pilot” for “The Finder” starring George Stults and Michael Clarke Duncan uncovered 11 million viewers when it aired April 21.
“Bones” airs Thursday nights at 9 p.m./EST on Fox.
