Tornado Footage Mesmerizing, Dangerous & Deadly

The tornadoes that ripped through seven southern U.S. states this week have left more than 300 dead and thousands of people devastated. In one NBC Nightly News report, survivors of a Mississippi declared, “Our lives are shattered.” In another report, people said, “We just started crying.” A couple quick facts: The U.S. has more tornadoes than any other country; the one-year record, 1,800, was set in 2004, according to a Reuters story. You don’t ever want to be near one of these funnel clouds, but famed storm chaser Reed Timmer of Discovery’s “Storm Chasers” turned in some close-up footage of a massive storm that ripped through Philadelphia, Mississippi last Wednesday.
