The first series in the “Real Housewives” franchise officially has been given the axe.

Bravo has canceled “The Real Housewives of D.C.,” the network announced Thursday.

The spinoff will not return for a second season, after premiering Aug. 5, 2010 and landing with a thud. It suffered low ratings from the start and featured the most insufferable yet shockingly boring cast of perhaps any of the “Real Housewives”–including the notoriously fame-seeking ‘White House gatecrashers” Michaele and Tareq Salahi.

Word that it was over for the D.C. Housewives was first reported last month.

Storm watch: “The Real Housewives of Miami” spinoff could be next. It has performed even lower in the ratings than the drama mamas on the Hill.
