HBO has pulled the plug on “In Treatment” after three seasons, the network announced Thursday.

The critically acclaimed series debuted in January 2008 and won stars Gabriel Byrne a Golden Globe and Dianne Wiest an Emmy.

“Treatment” was based on an Israeli format, in which each episode aired as half-hour therapy sessions with Dr. Paul Weston’s patients, usually airing back-to-back episodes two days a week. That unusual airing pattern may have hurt it with viewers.

But hope is not all lost—HBO says it will consider tweaking the format and bringing the show back in another form.

“It’s true that we have no plans to continue with In Treatment as previously formatted,” an HBO spokesperson tells The Hollywood Reporter. “However, we are in continued conversations with the executive producers to find another way to continue telling these rich stories.”
