With the “Law & Order” mothership put to rest and “Law & Order: Los Angeles” on a creative makeover hiatus, stories were going unripped from headlines.

But the return of the newly name-shortened “Law & Order: LA” in April will fix that. The episode “Benedict Canyon,” now filming, will use the recent murder of Hollywood publicist Ronni Chasen as a jumping off point, Deadline.com reports.

Chasen’s death was found to be a result of a random robbery, but in true “L&O” fashion, the screen story will veer from the headline with signature twists and turns into dark family secrets. The central character also has been switched to a high profile stylist.

The spin-off has recently undergone major cast changes, with three regulars leaving, including Skeet Ulrich, who was first cast on the show. Deputy district attorneys played by Regina Hall and Megan Boone are also out.

NBC promos have hinted that Ulrich’s Detective Rex Winters might die in the line of duty, promising something will happen that hasn’t occurred in the “Law & Order” world for two decades – when Sgt. Max Greevey (George Dzundza) was murdered in 1991. (Annie Parisse’s deputy district attorney Alexandra Borgia was also killed off in 2006.)

Alfred Molina’s deputy district attorney character Ricardo Morales will now be hitting the streets as a detective partnered with TJ Jaruszalski (Corey Stoll).

On the “order” side of things, Terrence Howard’s Deputy District Attorney Jonah Dekker will be joined by mothership cast member Alana De La Garza from New York as Deputy District Attorney Connie Rubirosa.

“Law & Order: LA” will return with a two-hour episode April 11 and move to its regular 10 p.m. Monday timeslot the following week.
