The Daytime Emmys will once again be broadcast on network television. For the second straight year, CBS will televise the awards show live from the Las Vegas Hilton. This year’s ceremony is scheduled to air June 19th at 8/7c. The telecast will again be produced by ATI who produced both last year’s ceremony and the 2009 Emmys that aired on The CW. The Daytime Emmys’ low ratings over the past few years have made it less attractive to networks. The telecast was nearly discontinued in 2009, when all the major networks chose not to air it, until ATI took over the show and persuaded The CW to air them in September, long after the ballots had been counted.

Last year’s telecast was a welcome return to CBS, but it frustrated many viewers by focusing more on Las Vegas than on honoring the best of daytime television. CBS’s press release suggests that this year will again be centered around the entertainers performing on the Vegas strip. Jack Sussman, CBS’ Executive Vice President of Specials, Music and Live Events, is quoted as saying, “The best of daytime will be joined by the best of Las Vegas as some of the greatest entertainers in the world will join us for a celebration of all that is great about daytime television. It will be a primetime event for television honoring daytime’s best with non-stop entertainment, guest star surprises and oh, yes, we’ll give out a few awards as well.”
Nominations will be announced May 11th. ATI has set up a website to keep fans updated about the awards show.
