In a teaser for SNL last week, Zach Galifianakis – who memorably shaved off his beard the first time he hosted  – promised he would be “shaving off everything” for Saturday’s show. If by “everything,” he meant “his hair in the style of Mr. T for a sketch that never aired,” then he fulfilled that promise. Watch a behind-the-scenes video of his frantic backstage trim:

To open the episode, Galifianakis delivered a hilariously irreverent monologue worthy of the “‘Saturday Night Live’ best-host hall of fame” title, noted EW’s Ken Tucker. Stripping to reveal an Orphan Annie dress and lip-syncing the words to “Tomorrow,” the comedian used his signature giant pad of paper to silently express his thoughts on everything from gay marriage to smoking pot:

Galifianakis also scored major points as a creepy strait-jacketed Hannibal Lecter  in “Scared Straight,”  and as a crazed “View” fan who accidentally found himself at a taping of CBS’s “The Talk.”
