“Whaaat?” was the answer when we asked Danny McBride, star of HBO’s “Eastbound & Down” and known for roles in “Pineapple Express” and “Up in the Air,” about recent rumors that he’d replace Steve Carell on “The Office” or Charlie Sheen on “Two and a Half Men.”
“I haven’t heard that yet, but I’m flattered. But we’re working on the new season of ‘Eastbound & Down’ and I enjoy doing it and I gotta stick to that. We do have a good time on our show and I can’t imagine there being a place that’s more fun to work than here,” said McBride, who plays Kenny Powers, a failed baseball pitcher with a penchant for drugs, boobs, and, well, Charlie Sheen-like declarations like “I’m better than anyone in the world!”
Speaking of those comparisons, a website popped up called “Kenny Powers or Charlie Sheen,” which posts quotes from both the “Eastbound & Down” character and Charlie Sheen and asks readers to decide who said what.
At Thursday’s Paley Festival in LA, McBride said that it would be fun to have Carell on “Eastbound & Down,” but they haven’t even begun thinking about guest stars for next season. “You’ll definitely see more sex, drugs and rock and roll, but that’s about all I can tell you. We just started writing, we don’t shoot until June, so we can’t even say who’s coming back and who’s not,” says McBride of season 3.
At the Paley Q&A portion for the show, however, they announced that the new season, likely back around December/January, will “probably” be the last.
