Remember “Prison Break“? Sure you do. It was the Fox series that followed the efforts of Michael Schofield to break his brother out of a maximum security prison before he was given his death sentence. The creators of that series are launching “Breakout Kings,” a new series on A&E starting March 6. It’s premise? Veteran U.S. Marshals Charlie Duchamp (Laz Alonso) and Ray Zancanelli (Domenick Lombardozzi) use former fugitives (Jimmi Simpson, Malcolm Goodwin & Serinda Swan) to catch fugitives. One of the former fugitives is a computer-savvy ex gangbanger, another is a behavioral expert with a gambling problem. The cops have issues, too. “Matt and I really wanted to do a show where the heroes weren’t earnest,” co-creator Nick Santora said in a Q&A that he and his producing/writing partner Matt Olmstead did with the New York Times. “Nothing is more boring than a procedural show where everyone is in lock step and acting as if it’s the most important work in the world. I’d rather gouge my eyes out than watch one of them.” They also told the Times about a surprise for “Prison Break” fans: “T-Bag [the character played by Robert Knepper on “Prison Break”] is going to be making an appearance very early in “Breakout Kings,” said Santora.
