Meddling stage mothers have long gotten a bad rap, but it’s pesky stage papas who are wreaking havoc on their daughters’ careers these days, from Michael Lohan’s Lindsay-Letterman debacle to Billy Ray Cyrus bashing Miley’s mega-money machine “Hannah Montana.” (Let’s not even talk about Jessica and Ashlee’s “handler” Joe Simpson.)
Now hot topic Billy Ray Cyrus won’t get to sit at the hot-topics table on “The View.” He was a scheduled guest on Wednesday’s show but canceled at the last-minute–and his daughter Miley is reportedly the one who nixed the appearance, reports the New York Post. He also pulled out of a planned appearance on “Good Morning America” this week.
It seems Miley’s had enough of daddy dearest’s “View” of her career, after his “explosive” interview with GQ magazine–in which he made inflammatory statements about “Hannah Montana“–caught fire in the headlines last week.
“The damn show destroyed my family,” Billy Ray said, “I’d erase it all in a second if I could.”
Miley was reportedly hopping mad over her father’s comments–and Billy Ray later said he regretted making them. She may be a wild child, but the 18-year-old singer also appears wise enough not to bite the hand that feeds her, and “reasoned” with her pop not to diss the Disney machine in public again.
It’s true his family is in tatters at the moment; Cyrus and wife Tish filed for divorce in October, and Miley’s provocative “growing pains” continue–she was caught smoking a bong at a party in December. But playing the blame game is not going to get Cyrus anywhere…except in the dog house with the Mouse House.
A spokesman for Cyrus declined to comment on the canceled “View” appearance but says there are no plans to reschedule, according to the Post.
Perhaps Miley also wants to keep things on the down-low until she does some skewering of her own when she hosts “SNL” on March 5.
