Victoria and Albert.  A love story for the ages.

For the sake of fiction, and a good period romance, we are willing to overlook the fictionalization of Queen Victoria’s story and the fact that, in reality, Victoria looked like Emily Blunt’s toady nursemaid. Rupert Friend’s Prince Albert is closer to real thing, but still a bit of an embellishment. (No, by “embellishment” I do not mean the piercing named after his royal highness.)

In the end, it’s all just so pretty – the costumes, the time period, and the story of a young queen trying to navigate her overwhelming responsibilities. The Academy thought so too and awarded “The Young Victoria” the Oscar for Best Achievement in Costume Design. Emily Blunt was nominated for Best Actress but was blindsided by Bullock’s powerhouse.

You can watch this Oscar-winning classic online right now.
