2002 was a banner year for crazy academics thanks to “A Beautiful Mind.” Ron Howard’s tale based on the life of Nobel Laureate John Forbes Nash, Jr., and starring Russell Crowe and Jennifer Connelly,  took home the coveted Oscar awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress and Best Screenplay.

“A Beautiful Mind” is a deeply moving and fascinating story chronicling the brilliant scholar’s decent into paranoid schizophrenia. Like most films adapted from “true life” it came under fire for fictionalizing various aspects of Nash’s experience and straying from the chronology. Howard and writer Akiva Goldsman contend that it was never meant to be an exact translation, but give the feeling of his overarching struggles.

You can watch this Oscar-winning classic online right now.
