The season finale of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” Sunday nearly ended with a cliffhanger as Cynthia Bailey’s marriage began with one.
With costars Kim Zolciak, NeNe Leakes and Sheree Whitfield in attendance at Atlanta’s Fernbank Museum of Natural Hisotry, Bailey overcame her last minute indecision and married restaurateur Peter Thomas.
But the day was full of plenty of drama – and we’re not just talking about the platinum dress by designer Rubin Singer and its giant neck bow.
Thomas arrived at the church seemingly drunk and confessed that he had been forced to shut down the nightclub the couple ran.
Bailey worried about money and the couple didn’t have $3,000 for the booze and wedding bands.
All this prompted Bailey’s mother and sister to try to hide the marriage license so the ceremony wouldn’t be legal.
But in the end, the couple said I do as planned on July 24.
“We wanted to get married and it was kind of hard to stop the train once it started rolling,” Bailey told Zap2It of the lavish ceremony.
“It’s not like it was easy at that point to say okay, we spent all this money, let’s just cancel it, tell everyone, ‘Sorry you took off work. Sorry you bought your tickets. Sorry you got your hotel rooms already’ and we’re just going to go the courthouse. That really didn’t feel like a sensible option, because we were so far into it,” she said.
Bailey said the event wasn’t as expensive as it looked. “Even though the wedding was beautiful and looked very lavish, it actually, you know, wasn’t a million dollar wedding or anything. We worked it out and I had a very, very strong team and a supportive team behind me who could just pull it off.”
