Ricky Gervais is headed to Scranton. The original UK “Office” boss will reprise his role as David Brent (opposite his awards nemesis Steve Carell, no less) on the Jan. 27 episode of NBC’s “The Office,” Vulture reports.

“It’s a little more than if you blink, you’ll miss it, but if you don’t set your TiVo right, you’ll miss it,” series executive producer Paul Lieberstein says of his cameo.

This latest gig marks yet another primetime television appearance for the pervasive Gervais, who has been the object of relentless scrutiny – and a Jennifer Lopez death threat – for his controversial commentary on Sunday’s Golden Globes.  Commentary which he has taken to his blog to defend, and will no doubt continue to defend (well that, and his love of black v-neck t-shirts) during his appearance on Thursday’s “Piers Morgan Tonight” (9/8c).

On Friday, his animated series, “The Ricky Gervais Show,” returns to HBO for a second season (9/8c).  Saturday, Gervais’ travel show, “An Idiot Abroad,”  in which his fuddy duddy pal Karl Pilkington is shipped to far-flung locales, premieres on Discovery Science (10/9c).

What do you think: Have we reached the Gervais supersaturation point? Are you excited to see his cameo on “The Office”? Will you tune in to his various shows this weekend?
