Instead of spending the day with washed-up recovering celebrity addicts, Dr. Drew Pinsky is spending it with an exotic bacterial infection. (You decide which is worse.)

Dr. Drew was on his second honeymoon with his wife of 20 years when he fell ill, leading VH1 to cancel the “Celebrity Rehab” reunion special taping scheduled for Tuesday, Zap2it reported Tuesday.

“Spent the night as a patient in the hospital,” Dr. Drew tweeted Tuesday afternoon. “Seems I may have picked up Leptospirosis in the West Indies. This is just brutal.”

Leptospirosis is a bacteria whose symptoms include high fever, chills, muscle aches, headache, vomiting, diarrhea, and jaundice, according to Webmd.com. If not caught early it can cause serious complications such as liver failure or meningitis.

VH1 has said the taping will be rescheduled when Dr. Drew recovers, but hasn’t provided updates on his condition. The special is currently scheduled to air Jan. 26.
