Showtime has picked up a new yet-to-be-titled one-hour reality series following the 2010 World Series Champion San Francisco Giants.

Premiering near the opening of the 2011 baseball season, the show is co-produced by Showtime and Major League Baseball Productions.

“This new series is one I’ve wanted to do for as long as I can remember,” David Nevins, Showtime’s president of entertainment said Friday at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena. “Having produced ‘Friday Night Lights,’ I’ve received numerous pitches over the years for scripted shows about the world of professional sports, but nothing can capture the drama and intensity of the real thing.”

He continued, “I’m confident that this group of personalities will make for a provocative and groundbreaking television series that will appeal beyond the hardcore baseball fan to all viewers who appreciate great drama.”

Nevins admit other teams were approached, but “as the season wore on and we started moving to the playoffs we started narrowing in on the Giants because I just think they have a very interesting collection of young players, young personalities, [and] eccentric personalities.” Once they clinched the Series win, “It became the final check in their column. We were going in that direction anyway and then they won it,” he said.
