This is not your father’s “Camelot,” or even your grandfather’s. It’s a new, made-for-television retelling of the story of King Arthur (Jamie Campbell Bower); Guinevere (Tamsin Egerton); Arthur’s half-sister and rival for the throne, Morgan Le Fey (Eva Green); the sorcerer Merlin (Joseph Fiennes) and all the knights and ladies of the Arthurian legends, which may or may not be true.

And whether or not Arthur and the others ever really existed, or lived the adventures we associate them with, their hold on our imaginations continues to this day.

The new “Camelot” TV series coming to Starz isn’t due to premiere until April, but you can get a taste of what’s in store in this preview clip that’s just been posted on YouTube.

According to the cast members and producers interviewed, this new “Camelot” represents an attempt to accurately depict the hardships of life in the Arthurian era (said to be the late fifth and early sixth centuries) – characterized by brief lifespans, miserable subsistence living, and sudden, bloody violence.

It’s the progression of a trend that started with “The Tudors” on Showtime and continues with the fantastical “Game of Thrones” on HBO, also coming in April.

“This is the story of Camelot that has never been told before,” trumpets the Starz Web site.

So how about it, King Arthur fans: Does this clip whet your appetite for more?
