Tucker Carlson believes in second chances, just not for dog killers. Filling in for Sean Hannity Tuesday night on Fox News, Carlson claimed Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick deserved more severe punishment for his role in dog fighting: He should have been executed.

Following up on President Obama’s recent praise of the Eagles’ owner for giving Vick a second chance after his prison sentence, Carlson led a panel discussion on the issue, in which he made his outrageous claim.

“I’m a Christian, I’ve made mistakes myself, I believe fervently in second chances,” Carlson said. “But Michael Vick killed dogs, and he did in a heartless and cruel way. And I think, personally, he should’ve been executed for that. He wasn’t, but the idea that the President of the United States would be getting behind someone who murdered dogs? Kind of beyond the pale.”

Somewhere, Jon Stewart is updating a monologue.
