HBO is the magic word. (Aaaah!)

HBO will air a special of Paul Reubens’ Broadway production of “The Pee-wee Herman Show,” the network announced Tuesday.

“The Pee-wee Herman Show on Broadway” will shoot at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre in New York in January, immediately following the show’s last Broadway performance on Jan 2.

“Before his hit series and movies, HBO introduced Paul Reubens’ Pee-wee Herman to a national audience in the ‘Young Comedians’ series, followed by the groundbreaking 1981 special,” noted Nancy Geller, HBO’s senior vice president of Original Programming. “It’s thrilling to have Paul back on the network, and it will be a blast to return to Pee-wee’s Playhouse.”

Reubens will reunite with veteran comedy director Marty Callner, who will helm this special and directed the original 1981 HBO special, “The Pee-wee Herman Show.”

“The Pee-wee Herman Show on Broadway” is scheduled to air in 2011.
