There will be no reunion for one of television’s most beloved shows if Alan Alda has his way.
“We did the best we could and our time has passed,” the iconic ‘M*A*S*H‘ star says. “I think what we did ought to be left as it is. It represents what we did at the time. I would hate to see it raked over again.”
Besides, even at 74, the man who admits he got kicked out of glee club in high school has exciting, new fish to fry.
He’ll appear in two big screen features next year: ‘Wanderlust’ with Jennifer Aniston and ‘Tower Heist’ with Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy.
And Thursday night, he returns to television, reprising his role as Milton Greene (Jack Donaghy’s dad) on ’30 Rock’.
In the episode, Jack (Alec Baldwin) attempts to plot revenge on his mother (Elaine Stritch) by inviting Milton to dinner.
“We haven’t really seen each other since he was conceived,” Alda teases.
“They keep trying to one-up each other with hurtful things and before long, both his parents are screaming at him – which in ‘30 Rock’s twisted way, is a holiday event.
“It is a happy Christmas for Jack for his parents to be yelling at him because that is the closest he has been to them. It is really a backwards holiday story. Instead of a family getting together ad having a nice turkey, they get together and scream at one another.”
