CNN’s John Roberts is stepping down as co-anchor of ‘American Morning‘ at the beginning of the new year, according to The New York Post.

Roberts will reportedly shift into a position as a CNN national correspondent, to be based in Atlanta, in a move that stems, at least in part, from his desire to be closer to his pregnant fiancée, Kyra Phillips, who anchors ‘CNN Newsroom.’

The Post writes that speculation surrounds daytime anchor T.J. Holmes as the top contender to replace Roberts and join Kiran Chetry behind the desk at the struggling cable news morning show. “T.J. Holmes has always been groomed for a bigger gig,” an insider tells the paper.

As if CNN hasn’t had enough shake-ups lately, the Post also reports that Tony Harris, who anchors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on weekdays, is leaving CNN at the end of December after six years at the network.

Meanwhile, the final episode of ‘Larry King Live’ will air on CNN on Thursday, Dec. 16.
