With the show in repeats until the new year, Chandra Wilson answered a few questions about the tuneful episode of ‘Grey’s Anatomy‘ that’s in the works – just don’t call it a musical.

“Everyone keeps calling this a ‘musical episode,’ but really it’s about the music of ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’” Wilson, who plays Dr. Miranda Bailey, told People of the episode that was announced last week.

“We’re basically taking iconic songs from the show, songs that everyone knows, or has heard, and we’re going to bring them to life through the characters on the show,” she said, in what has to be good news for the royalty chances of ‘Grey’ faves Snow Patrol and The Fray.

Just how the cast’s pipes will be involved is yet to be announced, but some of them have chops. Wilson got her start in musical theater and Sara Ramirez (Dr. Callie Torres) won a Tony for ‘Spamalot.’

A certain Scotsman can also apparently hold his own. “Kevin McKidd (Dr. Owen Hunt) is a rock star,” Wilson said. “We’ve had the pleasure of hearing him sing, and he’s just a rock star! You’d be amazed.”

Wilson described the episode as still ‘Grey’s’ — “but instead, the music will be essential to what’s happening.”

Wilson did have one suggestion for a group number. “Wouldn’t it be cool to hear everyone sing ‘Chasing Cars’?” Enjoy having that song in your head for the next three days.
