Well, that was quick. Monday morning broke with a report from Deadline.com that James Franco and Anne Hathaway were going to be asked to host the 2011 Academy Awards, and previous commitments notwithstanding, both were expected to accept, with an official announcement coming later in the week. However, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences just made it official with a press release. The two hotties will definitely host, meaning Oscar is going to skew young and sexy. “James Franco and Anne Hathaway personify the next generation of Hollywood icons— fresh, exciting and multi-talented,” said Bruce Cohen, who will produce the Oscar telecast with Don Mischer. “We hope to create an Oscar broadcast that will both showcase their incredible talents and entertain the world on February 27.” Deadline’s Nikki Finke described the twosome as an “inspired choice” while noting that both could be nominees themselves, Franco for ‘127 Hours‘ and Hathaway for ‘Love And Other Drugs.’ Early reaction to the stars appears positive. What do you think about Franco and Hathaway as Oscar’s hosts? Is it inspired? How do you think they compare to last year’s hosts, Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin?
