Oprah Winfrey’s high-energy final season is starting to pay off in the ratings. The queen of daytime, who’s stepping down from her talk-show throne in May after she launches a new cable network in January, scored some of her best audience numbers in three years earlier this month.

The viewership figures, just released for the week of Nov. 8-12 (that’s how Nielsen releases the ratings for syndicated TV shows ), included several of the many high-profile shows Oprah has produced so far for her grand-finale farewell season. ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’ averaged 8.3 million viewers for the five days, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

That’s way up from the 7 million she had been averaging since the season started in September, as we reported.

The shows that scored for Oprah in that high-rated week included her one-time-only interview with Katherine Jackson, mother of Michael – along with other members of the Jackson clan at the matriarch’s estate in Encino, Calif. That same week on another show, Marie Osmond talked publicly for the first time about her son’s suicide. And the week also included Oprah’s interview with ex-President George W. Bush.

The ratings that week put Oprah in second place among all syndicated shows, topped only by perennial fave ‘Wheel of Fortune’ (11.9 million).
